Abstracted Designs: Acrylic Paintings by Deb Holihan
July 30 through Aug. 25. Deb Holihan expresses herself though a wide variety of media and techniques: acrylic, watercolor, oil, calligraphy, even papier-mâché sculpture. Her exhibit at Maxwell this month features colorful abstracted Op Art designs. The bright energy of Holihan’s paintings makes this a perfect summertime show
Summer Reading at Maxwell
The Summer Reading Program runs through Aug. 12, with ongoing registration. It’s easy to register online from Maxwell’s website. You can set your personal reading goals, record your books, and write book reviews online, too. The theme for preschool through grade five is “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!” and for grades six through 12, “Get in the Game: Read!”
West Genesee CSD Summer Reading Lists
Titles for the West Genesee middle and high school summer reading lists will be available through Maxwell Library. Demand is usually high, so please leave enough time to get your choices before summer ends.
Children 18 and under with their own library cards might worry that overdue book fines will prevent them from participating in our Summer Reading Clubs. Please come and speak with Ms. Rose Burdick about our amnesty program.
Wild Wednesdays free family entertainment programs run through Aug. 10, from 6 to 7 p.m. No registration is required; come early for a front-row seat!

Adult Summer Reading Program
Through August 15. For ages 18 and up. Free. No registration.
Sponsored by the Friends of Maxwell Library. For each book you read, audiobook you listen to, or movie you watch (adapted from a book), submit an entry form at Maxwell Library for a chance to win a prize. There’s no limit on the number of times you enter. One prize per person. Drawing will take place at the Adult Summer Reading Dessert Party on Thursday, Aug. 18, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Email [email protected] with questions.
Long-Term Care Planning in Your 50s and 60s
Monday, Aug. 8, 6 to 7 p.m. Free. Registration required.
Long-term care planning is an essential part of retirement planning. This workshop, presented by a professional from Long Term Care Associates, Inc., will give you information about LTC planning strategies for various needs and financial situations.
Maxwell Matinee (for adults)
Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2 p.m. Free. Registration preferred. Call for title.
Based on a novel by Anne Rice, this biblical drama imagines the life of Jesus at age seven (2016; PG-13; 111 minutes). Unraveling Yarns Book Club (for adults)
Thursday, Aug. 11, 10:30 to noon. Free. No registration.
All book selections have a mystery or suspense theme. Bring your knitting and unravel a different plot each month. Each new title is kept a mystery until you pick it up. Stop in at Maxwell for a copy of next month’s book and a reading guide. Non-knitters are also welcome.
After-Hours Mini-Golf
Friday, Aug. 12, 5:30 to 7 p.m. For middle and high school students. Free. Registration preferred.
Rain or shine, practice your skills for the real thing! Play our micro-mini course in and around the stacks.

Maxwell Family Movie
Saturday, Aug. 13, 1 p.m. Call for title. Free. No registration.
In this delightful family film, a sheep takes the day off to have some fun and gets more than he expected when a mix up with a farmer, a caravan and a steep hill leads to a big-city adventure (2015; PG; 85 minutes). Maxwell Library Board Meeting

OverDrive has a new look! It’s brighter, faster, and easier to navigate. In this workshop, Mike Murphy demonstrates OverDrive’s new features and shows how simple it is to borrow digital titles on your computer, tablet, and phone.

Aug. 5: Color a flag for your favorite country’s team just in time for the Summer Olympics.
Aug. 12: Design your own “We’re Number One!” hand and cheer on your favorite athletes.
