Preparations under way for A Dinner for Herm
Dinner supports fight against cancer
In 2005, the Gregg family lost their beloved 26-year-old son, Holland, to Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Holland threw every ounce of his positive energy at every possible treatment for the disease with grace and exceptional stamina.
Over three years he underwent chemotherapy, radiation and three types of grueling stem cell transplants.
During the ordeal, his father discovered new clinical trials developing immunotherapy, which was more effective for him than traditional therapies and infinitely more tolerable.
Although immunotherapy ultimately only gave Holland a few more weeks of life, the Greggs were inspired by the work of Catherine Bollard, MD. Her work has gone on to save many lives like Holland’s, those of patients who got to her a little sooner.
The Gregg family has made a commitment to directly support her team’s developments in immunotherapy, the hopeful game changer in the battle to cure and manage cancers.
The family sponsors a biennial event called “A Dinner for Herm” to do just that. This year the event will be held on Friday, May 6, at the Skaneateles Country Club from 5:30 to 10 p.m.
This will be the fifth event.
The Greggs like to think of it as the best possible launch into summer, Holland’s favorite season, in Skaneateles.
The price of the event is $125/person, which includes a scrumptious dinner, a silent auction of original art, vacations and many items that will be hand made by supporters of the cause.
A rare musical moment will wrap up the night with the Dean Brothers Band and special guest Bob Halligan, Jr., one of Central NY’s must successful singer/songwriters.
Halligan has written for musical superstars including Cher, Blue Oyster Cult and Judas Priest. He currently headlines the Celtic-rock band, Ceili Rain.
He has a deep knowledge of songwriting and film score arranging, which enrich the music and music business courses he teaches at SU.
It will be a night to remember for sure. Seating is limited.
