Opening-week victories were nice for the Baldwinsville boys golf team, but what it did in Thursday afternoon’s match against Fayetteville-Manlius carried far more resonance. The two-time defending Section III Class AA champion Hornets ventured to Timber Banks with a perfect 4-0 record, but the Bees broke up that undefeated mark in a close, tense match where it prevailed by a 204-207 margin. Ryan Fecco and Andrew Roberts made the difference for B’ville. Each of them neared par and finished with nine-hole totals of 37, the top two individual rounds, while Matt Monaco matched F-M’s John Cacchio, who led his side with a 39. B’ville still needed Maxwell Dec to shoot a 45 and Zach Ravas to post a 46 to clinch the match, since the Hornets got a 41 from Jason Coleman, plus 42s from Nick Perry and Tommy Ryu and a 43 from Tim Zapisek. This followed Tuesday’s 201-234 victory over Cicero-North Syracuse’s Green squad, in a match also held at Timber Banks. Starting with Monaco’s 39, the Bees posted the five lowest rounds on the board. Fecco, Dec and Tim Garraffo each posted 40, and Roberts added a 41, all of them in front of Nick Bough, who led C-NS Green with a 45. School starts next week, and the Bees, with a 2-1 record, would have a busy week on the course, too, hosting Liverpool before meeting Cicero-North Syracuse’s Blue side and playing Syracuse at Drumlins to close out the week.
