Once the Skaneateles girls lacrosse team had locked down its third consecutive Section III Class C championship, two regional games in the state tournament quickly followed, but neither proved too taxing as the Lakers, again, are going to SUNY-Cortland for the state final four.
Skaneateles faced Section IV champion Chenango Forks in the opening round of the state Class C tournament Thursday at Maine-Endwell, near Binghamton, and blew past the Blue Devils 18-4, piling up a 13-1 first-half lead to quickly end the suspense.
Hannah Powers, with three goals and four assist, and Kyla Sears, with four goals and two assists, led a well-balanced attack.
Olivia Navaroli, Molly Newton, Hannah Logan and Sophie Kush each scored twice, with Emma Goodell getting a goal and two assists. Makena Gorman and Isabella Falcone also had goals.
In Saturday’s regional final at Canton, Skaneateles rolled again, marching past Section X champion Salmon River 20-5. Again, the Lakers decided it early, grabbing a 15-2 lead on the Shamrocks by halftime and spreading the production around.
Sears, with four goals, passed the century mark and now has 103 goals this season. Powers also scored four times, with Newton, Logan, Goodell, Gorman and Bailey Herr each getting two goals. Herr added three assists as defenders Tate Green and Lauren Goodchild earned single goals.
Now the Lakers are back at SUNY-Cortland for the state Class C final four, and face, in this Friday’s semifinal at 9:30 a.m., Section XI (Long Island, Suffolk County) champion Mount Sinai, who beat Skaneateles 15-6 in the state final two years ago.
If Skaneateles wins, it goes to Saturday’s title game against Bronxville (Section I) or Honeoye Falls-Lima (Section V).
