Voters in the East Syracuse Minoa School District voted 834 to 238 to approve the 2015-16 school year budget, totaling at $74.6 million, on May 19.
The budget brings a tax levy increase of 1.57 percent, which is below the district’s tax cap of 4.32 percent. This results in an annual increase of $27.19 per $100,000 home assessed value for Basic STAR homes. For senior citizens with Enhanced STAR, the overall tax bill will actually decrease $14.22 per $100,000 for 2015-16.
Also at this election, two candidates were elected to the board: incumbent Jennifer Steigerwald with 646 votes and Diane Seaman with 516 votes.
“I look forward to working with the current group of knowledgeable, devoted members of the board,” said Seaman. “Now that I am elected I plan to be a valuable member of the board by making sure that all decisions I support are related to helping our students become the best they can be and prepared for the career path they choose. I will be more active within the district, and offer new ideas and fresh perspectives that I feel will help achieve this objective.”
Candidates who did not win seats on the board were incumbent Patti Puma, with 439 votes and Carl Rode, with 357 votes.
Voters also chose to approve the East Syracuse Library budget with 843 yes votes and 226 no votes, as well as the Minoa Library budget with 861 yes votes and 209 no votes.
