With a perfect run through the CNY Counties League American division in the books, the Fayetteville-Manlius track and field teams could begin the work toward the post-season later this month.
The Hornets improved to 5-0 with a rout of Central Square on a warm, sunny Thursday afternoon, with F-M’s girls prevailing by a 116-25 margin and the boys beating the Redhawks 94-46.
Four different F-M girls won two events apiece, starting with Gwen Shepardson, who claimed the 100-meter hurdles in 17.2 seconds and later took the 400-meter hurdles in 1:11 flat.
Olivia Ryan breezed through the 400-meter dash in 1:07.7 before an 800-meter title in 2:25.4, while Sarah Olick-Sutphen covered the sprints, winning the 100-meter dash in 13.3 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 27.5 seconds.
Though not as prolific as in earlier meets, Christabel Ezidiegwu still unleashed a top long jump of 16 feet 8 inches and went 36’10” in the triple jump. She also teamed with Olick-Sutphen, Shauna Cheatham and Anna Perrotti for first place in the 4×100 relay in 50.9 seconds. Savannah Pidkaminy (discus, 85’2”) and Brittany Travis (shot put, 32’2 ½”) swept the throwing events.
Sophie Ryan got first at 1,500 meters in a swift 4:39.3 and Samantha Levy won the 3,000-meter run in 10:37.1. Annika Avery and Reilly Masden joined the Ryan sisters in the 4×800 relay, where F-M prevailed in 9:52.4, as Shepardson and Christina Berge’ helped Olivia and Sophia Ryan go 4:21.9 in the 4×400 relay.
During the boys meet, Kyle Barber had another double, going 52.1 seconds in the 400 sprint and, in the ensuing 400 hurdles, winning that race in 1:01 flat. He later helped Ed Cheatham, Hamza ElHabbal and Jules Ngadula take the 4×400 relay in 3:44.2.
Cheatham got through the 110 high hurdles in 18 seconds flat, finishing first there, also joining Ngadula, Parker Noble and Christian Bagabo in the 4×100 relay (44.5 seconds) as Noble went on to record a strong long jump of 20’2”.
To start the meet, ElHabbal, Bryce Millar, Jon Abbott and B Geehrer ran the 4×800 relay in 9:14.7. Millar would get a time of 9:46.1 in the 3,200-meter run after Abbott ran 800 meters in exactly two minutes and Brendan Pearl ran the mile in 4:54.6. Chibu Ezidegwu’s victory in the high jump involved clearing 5’8”.
