Though it had to wait longer than the other area girls golf teams to debut in 2015, Fayetteville-Manlius was ready for it, and not rusty.
Under new head coach Tom Chaddock, the Hornets won last Monday’s opener against West Genesee at the Westvale Club, defeating the Wildcats 187-222.
Madison Kingsley led F-M by posting a 43, while Caroline Gaglione put together a 47 and Maggie Bonomo added a 48. Each of them was ahead of Megan Kavney, who led WG’s efforts with a 55.
F-M did not have the same success against defending Section III champion Auburn at Green Lakes on Wednesday afternoon. In a 173-199 defeat to the Maroons, Kingsley shot a 45, with Audrey Putelo adding a 49 ahead of Bonomo (52) and Gaglione (53), but they all trailed Maroons star Lindsay May, who matched par with a 36 as teammate Maggie Lesch added a 41.
Still at Green Lakes on Thursday, F-M turned around and handled Cicero-North Syracuse 179-215, getting a 41 from Kingsley to again lead the way, though Gaglione posted a 45, Putelo had a 46 and Bonomo managed a 47, all of them ahead of the Northstars’ Jessica Doran, who led her side with a 50.
The 3-1 week concluded Friday at Green Lakes, F-M turning back West Genesee 193-224, again with Kingsley leading the charge thanks to her 44. Bonomo added a 47 and Campbell Keeney got a 50, with Putelo and Elizabeth Truman posting 52.
Jamesville-DeWitt and CBA continued their respective win streaks, the Red Rams’ week capped by topping East Syracuse Minoa 180-219 on Friday afternoon.
Jung-Hye Kim shot a 38, well clear in the individual race with Abby Baumgartner shot a 46, ahead of Alanna Jones (48) and Jessica Rieger (49). MaryKate Scheftic added a 52. For the Spartans, Audrey Rivers led with a 50, while Hannah Owens had a 53 and Sarah Hiltbrand managed a 56.
During last Monday’s 189-213 victory over Skaneateles at Butternut Creek, J-D saw Kim shoot a 43 and Jones manage a 44, making up for the Lakers’ Grace Magee shooting a 36 at the front.
A day later, J-D routed Chittenango 149-192. Kim shot 32, with Jones getting a 38 and Alex Catanzarite contributing a 39. Scheftic (40) and Baumgartner (43) weren’t far behind.
J-D made it three straight wins on Wednesday, turning back Marcellus 151-169 behind a 35 from Kim and a 37 from Jones, with Rieger also stepping up to shoot a 39. A 147-173 win over Oswego followed on Thursday as Kim and Jones both shot 35 and Baumgartner earned a 37.
At Camillus Country Club last Monday, CBA pulled away from Westhill 180-198, led again by Ellie Baumgartner, who shot a 40 with big help from Mary Frances Ierlan, who added a 43. Together, they overcame a 42 from the Warriors’ Shannon Bunce.
CBA took its turn against Skaneateles and beat those Lakers 172-201 at Drumlins. Ierlan led with a 41, just ahead of Elisabeth Kip, who posted a 43. Annie Fletcher and Ellie Baumgartner managed matching totals of 44, with Magee slumping to a 48 on the Lakers’ side.
Following a day of rest, CBA won again, 175-251, over Chittenango, tearing up Woodcrest as Baumgartner led with a 40, but Fletcher (44), Ierlan (45), Kip (46) and Annie Caputo (48) were close behind, all ahead of the Bears’ Rachel Cleary, who led her side with a 60.
ESM lost, 217-229, to Marcellus last Monday to open its week. Rivers shot a 53 at Arrowhead, trailing the Mustangs’ top individual, Mary Colella, by six shots. Hannah Owens had a 57, while Sarah Hiltbrand managed a 58 and Cassidy Bukaty posted a 61.
Bouncing back, the Spartans played Westhill to a 205-205 draw a day later, though the Warriors won the tie-breaker because it had the lower total beyond the main scoring column. Cassidy Bukaty shot a 52 at Arrowhead, trailing Bunce (48) by four shots among top individuals.
