Put together, the Skaneateles track and field teams would prove better than all the others gathered at Friday’s Christian Brothers Academy-Brother Basilian Invitational at Alibrandi Stadium.
In a field of 20 teams, the Lakers had a combined total of 146 points, just ahead of Carthage, who was second with 132 points. The Skaneateles girls team won its division, too, earning 98 points as Tully (77 points) finished second.
Amanda Wetmore was victorious in the girls 100-meter dash in 13.12 seconds, edging out Homer’s Alasace Sanders (13.16 seconds) for that top spot, and also getting fifth place in the long jump with a top leap of 14 feet 2 ½ inches.
Julia Willcox won, too, going through 800 meters in 2:27.60 to beat Tully’s Allison Congelli (2:34.34) by more than six seconds, to go with a fifth-place triple jump of 29’5”.
As expected, the girls Lakers excelled in the relays, winning the 4×400 in four minutes, 5.21 seconds, well clear of Tully (4:10.70) and the chasers, and taking second (51.64 seconds) to CBA (50.97 seconds) in the 4×100 relay. Skaneateles also was runner-up in the 4×800 relay in 10:19.95.
Olivia Gage also took second in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.35, behind Tully’s Jessica Donald, who won in 1:00.84, while Cecilia Marrinan was sixth in 1:06.64.
Mia Grasso, in a time of 1:08.44, took runner-up honors in the 400-meter hurdles, inches behind Carthage’s Bryanna Gagnon (1:08.37) as Nicole Bonocore was sixth in 1:16.13. Grasso later had a third-place high jump clearance of 4 feet 10 inches as Aubreah Lynn finished eighth (4’6”).
Kaitlyn Neal went 10:24.65 in the 3,000-meter run, finishing second to Jordan-Elbridge’s Abby Gugel, who won in 10:20.55 as Liz Dwyer (11:32.47) slide into sixth place.
Keely Gregg, clearing 7’6”, tied for second in the pole vault, while Katherine Carlile threw the discus 77’5” to take fourth place. Natalie Condon claimed fourth place in the 1,500-meter run in 5:20.32. Shannan Roberts and Laurel Parker were seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 200-meter dash.
On the boys side at CBA, Skaneateles picked up 48 points and took fourth place among 19 sides, with Carthage (89 points) taking the top spot, and the lone individual title came from Griffin Lawson, who ran the 400 sprint in 51.89 seconds, topping Weedsport’s Riley Springer (52.34 seconds) by nearly half a second as teammate Matt Leveroni finished ninth.
Connor Hill was second in the 200 in 23 seconds flat, just beat out by CBA’s Tom SanGiacomo, who won in 22.98 seconds. Hill, Watt, James Hackler and Griffin Lawson went exactly 3:30 in the 4×400 relay, putting them in second place behind Homer’s winning 3:27.46.
Elsewhere, Hill, Lawson, Jake Peterson and Zach Blair, who was seventh in the 100 in 12.18 seconds, got second place (46.09 seconds) behind Carthage (45.29 seconds) in the 4×100 relay. Hackler, Kai Soderberg, Jon Metz and Justin McClenhen were sixth (9:15.17) in the 4×800.
Max Messie, in the 400 hurdles, made it to third place in 1:03.31, with Tommy Hagen third in the 110 high hurdles in 16.59 seconds. Watt took ninth in the 800 in 2:09 flat, while Steve Ciaccio ran the mile in 4:55.33, finishing 10th.
Peterson recorded a sixth-place triple jump of 36’3” as Messie was seventh in the pole vault, clearing 10’6”, and Dalton Carter (10 feet) finished eighth. Andrew Weiss, in the long jump, went 17’2” to take ninth place.
