Baldwinsville’s indoor track and field team sent Arden Kellner, Marissa Lathrop, Katie Wicks and Evan Donhauser to Cornell University’s Barton Hall, where they each took part in last Saturday’s New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship meet.
Kellner, who finished third in the boys 600-meter run during the state qualifying meet Feb. 25 at SRC Arena, would have the best finish as part of the Section III team in the intersectional medley relay.
Paired with Andrew Bearkland (Cicero-North Syracuse), Nick Proper (Rome Free Academy) and Sean Kuehn (Central Square), Kellner helped Section III get to fifth place in nine minutes, 2.08 seconds, with Section I prevailing in 8:55.87.
Wicks and Lathrop were together in the girls 600-meter run. Lathrop had qualified in 1:41.42, four-hundredths of a second faster than Wicks’ 1:41.46, and they would run in the same heat here, too.
Improving to a time of 1:41.19, Lathrop was second in the heat, and Wicks was third in 1:42.42, behind Poly Prep’s Ava O’Mara (1:39.02). Overall, Lathrop and Wicks were 22nd and 24th, respectively, trailing Suffern’s Kamryn MacIntosh, who blazed to victory in 1:30.78 less than a month after setting the state record of 1:28.78 in the same event.
Donhauser had qualified for the boys 55-meter hurdles in 8.02 seconds, just behind East Syracuse Minoa’s Jeremy McGrath (7.97 seconds). Here, Donhauser went 8.14 seconds in his heat and McGrath finished in 8.09 seconds, Donhauser taking 24th place, two spots behind McGrath, as Monsignor McClancy’s Sidney Gibbons eventually won the state title in 7.32 seconds.
