This week’s Liverpool High School Senior of the Week is Matthew Sala. Matthew is an accomplished athlete, having played varsity football for three years, including acting as captain during the team’s undefeated 2014 regular season, and varsity lacrosse for three years. He has won numerous athletic honors, including being named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete and NewsChannel 9’s Athlete of the Week. He was named to the First Team All-League for football in 2013 and 2014, 2014 First Team All-League for lacrosse and First Team All-CNY for football, and he received an All-State Honorable Mention for football.
Matthew’s athleticism also spurs him in his volunteer work. He participates in a joint effort between Liverpool boys’ lacrosse and the Rescue Mission called Lax on a Mission, and he coaches youth for the Liverpool Youth Lacrosse Association.
When he’s not on the field, Matthew enjoys hip-hop and R&B music. His favorite class is technology (PTLW) and he plans to attend Syracuse University’s school of engineering in the fall. At LHS, he is a member of Varsity Club and National Honor Society, and he has been enrolled in RIT’s Project Lead the Way course for four years.
Matthew said his father has had the biggest influence on his life.
“He has shown me that obstacles may get in your way, but you can’t let it bring you down,” he said. “You have to keep pushing.”
