After battling to a second-place finish in the Port Byron Invitational on Jan. 3, the Skaneateles wrestling team continued to do well in its return to OHSL Liberty division action.
The Lakers faced Syracuse’s Institute of Technology Central Friday night, and with a full lineup on hand, it rolled to a 60-18 victory over the Eagles.
ITC did win the first two bouts, including a close 152-pound match where Mike Goetzmann took a 4-3 defeat to Tyler Carbonaro, but the Lakers got on the board at 160 pounds when Andrew Newton pinned Damian Mesa in 1:46.
Newton’s win started a stretch of four straight Skaneateles victories, continuing when Francis Lombardi (170 pounds) claimed a forfeit. Then Pat Greenfield (182 pounds) beat Nahjir Dean 8-2 and, at 195 pounds, Joey McIntyre pinned Esrayael Flowers in 1:21.
Two bouts later, T.J. Greenfield, at 285 pounds, started another streak when he took just 70 seconds to pin Devinear Mason, after which forfeits went to J.W. Simmons (99 pounds), Christian Daley (106 pounds), Max Collier (113 pounds) and Nevan Rourke (120 pounds).
Then the Brillo brothers finished the night off with one-sided wins, Joey Brillo (120 pounds) getting a 15-0 technical fall over Mehki Shepherd in 3:15 before Josh Brillo (132 pounds) handled Keshon Howard 12-1. In between, Matt Goetzmann (126 pounds) lost, 6-5, to Ben Tinelli.
Skaneateles has back-to-back road meets scheduled this week, taking on Onondaga Tuesday and Morrisville-Eaton on Thursday night.
