Throughout the early portion of the season, Baldwinsville boys bowler Tyler Watchus had put up big numbers, but one number – 300 – had somehow eluded his grasp.
All of that changed in last Tuesday’s match against Fayetteville-Manlius at B’ville Sports Bowl. Though the Bees lost, 3-0, to the Hornets, Watchus stole the show by reaching perfection.
In one of the games, Watchus rolled 12 shots – and each time, all 10 pins fell. It was the first 300 game of the season in Section III competition, and was part of a 768 series, not far from the 804 set he put up against Cicero-North Syracuse two weeks earlier.
Nick Fordyce put together a 201 game and a 554 series, the only one close to Watchus on B’ville’s side. Meanwhile, the Hornets got a 590 series from Steve Winschel, a 576 series from John Luke-Bounfiglio and a 539 series from James Badger.
Though B’ville’s girls bowling team had a more modest pinfall, it got the victory over F-M in a 3-0 shutout, led by Brooke Flask, whose 184 game was part of a 470 series. Kaitlynn Asditt had a 185 game during her 401 set as Alyson Pfeiffer added a 168 game and 428 series.
Watchus and the Bees were back on the lanes Friday afternoon, against West Genesee, and much the same thing happened, except for the perfect-game part.
B’ville’s boys lost, this time in a 2-1 decision, with Watchus still putting together a 288 high game that featured 10 strikes on his way to a 710 series. Fordyce improved, to a 581 series (209 high game), but WG’s Steve Weiskopff was in top form, too, putting together a 279 game on his way to a 656 set.
But the girls Bees maintained its fine form with a 3-0 shutout over the Wildcats. Asditt, with a 489 series and high game of 216, led her side, with Pfeiffer improving to a 465 series, featuring a 164 high game.
Then, two days before Christmas, B’ville swept Liverpool in a pair of 3-0 matches. Watchus was steady in the boys match, earning a 626 series and high game of 224, with Fordyce getting a 198 game during his 555 set and Tanner Mento adding a 444 series. Tyler Hubbell led the Warriors with a 513 series.
In the girls match against Liverpool, Asditt improved to a 499 series, with a high game of 201, to lead the girls side as Pfeiffer had a 391 series, each of them negating the three-game total of 543 put up by the Warriors’ Dailyn McCarthy.
