A busy September continued for the Sknaeateles girls swim team as it went through two more meets last week, winning them both to improve to 3-2 on the season. To start with, the Lakers went on the road and took on the combined Syracuse city squad last Wednesday night at Henninger High School. With Rachel Teixeira and Kaleigh Nicholson each winning a pair of races, Skaneateles prevailed by a score of 98-74. In the 200-yard freestyle, Teixeira gained first place in two minutes, 10.27 seconds. Then she went to the 100 freestyle and won that race in 58.48 seconds before pairing with Halle King, Leah King and Haley Buchholz to take the 200 freestyle relay in 1:53.73. Nicholson gained a victory in the 100 butterfly, posting a time of 1:16.69, and would also get a title in the 500 freestyle in 6:23.28. Buchholz gained first place in the 200 individual medley in 2:35.48, right before Leah King, in 27.29 seconds, beat the field in the 50 freestyle. Tara Chalupnicki picked up 139.4 points in diving, just as Lily Buchholz took the 100 backstroke (1:13.45) and Mary Teixeira won the 100 breaststroke in 1:33.18. B Ready and Haley Buccholz joined the King sisters in the 200 medley relay (2:13.97) as, later in the meet, that same group, with Rachel Teixeira replacing Ready, went 4:05.09 in the 400 freestyle relay. Back at the Community Center pool two nights later, Skaneateles took on Holland Patent, who started well – but could not finish as well as the Lakers rallied to win, 94-81, over the Golden Knights. Having lost the first two races, Skaneateles started to take over when Buchholz rolled to first place in the 200 IM in 2:31.44. Right after, Leah King won the 50 freestyle in 27.01 seconds, and Chalupnicki added to that edge as she won the diving event with 169.55 points, part of a 1-2 finish with Kyra Cottrill (157.15 points). Then King claimed a second race in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.93 before Rachel Teixeira, in the 100 freestyle, earned the victory in 58.65 seconds. Later, Teixeira won the 100 breaststroke (1:20.76) and paired with Buchholz, Leah King and Halle King in the 400 freestyle, which Skaneateles claimed in 4:02.57. That same quartet swam the 200 freestyle relay in 1:50.45 before Haley Buchholz (1:10.25) and Lily Buchholz (1:14.92) went 1-2 in the 100 backstroke. Skaneateles gets two more meets next week, facing Cicero-North Syracuse Tuesday at Le Moyne College before hosting Fayetteville-Manlius on Sept. 26.
