Each of the Skaneateles track and field teams will have a big role during next weekend’s New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship meet at Cicero-North Syracuse’s Bragman Stadium.
This comes on the heels of the Lakers winning girls and boys Division II (small school) relay races during last Thursday’s Section III state qualifier, also held on the C-NS oval.
Skaneateles won both the girls and boys 4×400 relays in Division II. On the girls side, Taylor Woodruff, Mia Grasso, Raenah Campbell and Shannon Roberts posted a time of four minutes, 3.01 seconds, topping Hamilton (4:07.95) and the rest of the field.
Moving to the boys 4×400, Jeff Kringer, Patrick Biver, Cooper Watt and James Hackler paired up and, in a time of 3:29.33, pulled away from runner-up Beaver River (3:32.08) to get first place.
On top of that, Skaneateles also won the girls 4×100 relay, with the quartet of Woodruff, Katelyn Ellison, Amanda Wetmore and Laurel Parker finshing in 50.27 seconds, exactly half a second better than CBA (50.77 seconds) at the line and setting a school record in the process.
Also, the Lakers’ 4×800 relay side, composed of Madeline Adams, Kaitlyn Neal, Julia Willcox and Liz Dwyer, gained seventh place in 10:09.64.
Individually, Neal was victorious on the Division II side of the 3,000-meter run in 10:29.76, ahead of Westhill/Bishop Ludden’s Genny Corcoran (10:34.20) by a comfortable margin.
Campbell ran the 400 hurdles in 1:06.19, finishing second to Hamilton’s Clara Jones (1:05.14), while Adams got to fifth place in the 1,500-meter run in 4:59.21. Olivia Gage was ninth (27.24 seconds) in the 200-meter dash.
Biver nearly won the boys 400-meter dash, getting to a time of 50.47 seconds that beat everyone except Vernon-Verona-Sherrill’s Matt McCoy, who prevailed in 49.76 seconds. Also, Kringer was sixth in the 100-meter dash in 11.58 seconds.
