Once their regular-season business with each other was done (with one victory apiece), the Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse softball teams proceeded to handle most of its other opposition through the rest of the busiest week of the regular season.
Moving on from that game, Liverpool romped past Oswego 12-2 on Tuesday afternoon, grabbing a 10-0 lead by the fourth inning.
Alicia Hansen fell one single short of a cycle with a home run, triple, double and four RBIs. Nicole Cerrone, Taylor Charles, Jenna Wike, Ericka Sadowski and Dominique LaRose also drove in runs as Peyton Bellrose pitched and held the Buccaneers to four hits, striking out seven.
C-NS, meanwhile, wasted no time shaking off the defeat to Liverpool. In fact, the very next day Megan Tully combined with Gabriella Corasaniti on a no-hitter as the Northstars blanked Syracuse East 6-0.
In her six innings of work, Tully struck out eight while only allowing one walk. At the plate, Meghan Bocyck smashed a home run, one of three hits on the day as she got two RBIs. Lauren Floyd also had three hits as she, along with Khaliyah Flournory, Janelle Walters and Rachelle Walters, drove in single runs.
On Wednesday, it was Dana Nicoletti’s turn to spin a pitching gem, Liverpool blanking Fayetteville-Manlius 9-0 as Nicoletti struck out 11 in a complete-game, three-hit shutout.
A three-run first inning got the Warriors on track, and befofe it was over Bellrose had hit a home run and earned three RBIs, while Hansen went four-for-four, tripling and driving in three runs. Cerrone and Wike had one RBI apiece.
C-NS got some particularly sweet payback of its own Thursday when it went to Camillus and beat West Genesee 9-0, avenging a 1-0 defeat to the Wildcats at Gillette Field on April 17.
Tully silenced WG’s batters, amassing 12 strikeouts in a two-hit shutout. C-NS also flourished at the plate, building a 4-0 lead before five runs in the seventh closed it out.
Corasaniti, with two hits and three RBIs, led the way as Morgan Phillips and Bocyck each drove in two runs, with Flournory adding three hits. Katie Scott and Jess Callisto also drove in runs.
In Friday’s lone game, Liverpool took its turn handling Oswego and earned a 9-0 shutout. Again, a quick start helped, the Warriors scoring six times in the bottom of the second to put away the Bucs.
Bellrose not only tossed a four-hit complete game with three strikeouts, she also hit a home run and put up three RBIs. Katie Yudin went deep, too, driving in a pair of runs, while Hansen and Jenna Wike earned one RBI apiece.
As part of a Saturday doubleheader at the Gillette Road complex, C-NS ended up with a split of pair of eight-inning thrillers, rallying to beat Horseheads 6-5 in eight innings, but falling to Troy 5-4.
Against Horseheads, the Northstars trailed, 5-1, going to the bottom of the fifth. But it got a run in that inning and then tied it, 5-5, with a three-run rally in the seventh before winning the game an inning later.
Flournory hit her second home run of the week. Alyssa Neuser drove in two runs, with Phillips, Breanna Melfi and Maggie Kennedy adding single RBIs. Floyd, Phillips, Flournory and Melfi each gained a pair of hits.
Against Troy (who also beat Jamesville-DeWitt 8-0 that same day), C-NS nearly did the exact same thing, falling behind 4-1 before tying it with a run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh.
This time, though, it was the Flying Horses getting the extra-inning tally, overcoming Tully’s 14 strikeouts to pull out the win. Flournory, in defeat, went four-for-five at the plate, tripling and scoring twice, while Phillips, Jess Callisto and Rachelle Walters drove in runs. Floyd added three hits and Scott got two hits.
