Already with the Section III Class B title in its possession, the Westhill/Bishop Ludden girls indoor track and field team wanted to add an Onondaga High School League championship, too.
But the Warriors could not quite pull it off in last Thursday night’s league meet at SRC Arena, earning 89.5 points to finish second in Division 1 behind Jamesville-DeWitt’s 102 points. Marcellus was fifth, with 41 points.
One win for Westhill/Ludden came in the 55-meter dash, where Tatiana Monds prevailed in 7.56 seconds, just ahead of Marcellus’ Abby Fallon (7.70 seconds) in third place.
Monds would finish second (44.55 seconds) to Fowler’s Nytasia Survia (44.15 seconds) in the 300-meter dash, where Shelby Stack (45.68 seconds) finished fourth.
During the 4×800 relay, Westhill/Ludden got first place as Genny Corcoran, Erin Christensen, Erin Morrell and Annibel Coolican got a time of 10:12.13, leaving Fulton (10:16.98) and the field behind.
Also, Monds, Stack, Olivia Dagineau and Katherine Doherty took second place in the 4×200 relay in 1:53.38, with Mexico (1:51.99) in first. Morrell, Christensen and Dagineau and Sam Toscano were second in the 4×400 relay in 4:31.30 as Homer (4:26.52) prevailed.
Bella Sterly, with a throw of 33 feet 6 ¼ inches, beat Marcellus’ Suzanna Sylcox (31’11”) in the shot put as Solvay’s Samantha Waters (28’6”) was fourth.
Rachel Garn again starred for Marcellus, as she won the 1,000-meter run in 3:03.09, with Coolican second (3:04.84) and Corcoran third (3:12.09) for Westhill/Ludden and Eliza Bell sixth for the Mustangs. Coolican later finished third in the 600-meter run in 1:43.66.
In the 1,500-meter run, Garn, in 5:03.02, edged out East Syracuse-Minoa’s Natalie Marra (5:03.84), with Corcoran (5:07.79) in fifth place. The Mustangs also excelled in the high jump, where Mary-Catherine Coon cleared 4’8” to take third place.
Molly Clark and Caroline Coates were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run for the Warriors, who also had Doherty fifth and Noelle Coolican fourth (7’6”) in the pole vault. Christensen took sixth in the high jump.
Solvay saw Danielle Leonardo finish fourth (10.17 seconds) and Angela Frateschi fifth (10.20 seconds) in the 55-meter hurdles, with the Mustangs’ Haley Randall sixth. Nicole Antonacci took sixth place in the long jump.
West Genesee, even without Laura Leff in the fold (she was getting ready for Saturday’s Millrose Games), finished fourth in the six-team CNY Counties League National division meet with 59 points as Fayetteville-Manlius won with 150 points.
Brianna Richardson was victorious in the 55 hurdles in 8.98 seconds, edging past F-M’s Christina Ezidiegwu (9.10 seconds). She was also second in the triple jump with 34’9” behind Cicero-North Syracuse’s Javielle Fanizzi (35’1”) and third in the long jump (15’3 ¾”).
Abby Uczen, clearing 9’6”, won the pole vault, with no other competitor getting closer than two feet (7’6”) to her. Eighth-grader Carly Benson stood up in the 1,500 and got second place in 4:57.39 behind F-M’s Alana Pearl (4:50.72).
Benson, teaming with Elise Dunshee, Maria Matkoski and Lindsay Weaver, got to third in the 4×800 in 10:21.17 as the Wildcats were also fourth (4:27.32) in the 4×400. Dunshee took fifth place in the 3,000 in 11:22.60. Allison Iles, who ran a leg in the 4×200 and another leg in the 4×200, where WG was fifth (1:59.74), finished sixth in the 300 sprint.
For Jordan-Elbridge, who earned 29 points in the OHSL Division 2 meet, Abby Gugel, Julie Hines, Madi Hatt and Emily Weichert got to third place in the 4×400 in 4:43.03.
Hines added a third-place finish in the 300 in 43.05 seconds and was sixth in the 55 sprint. Mary Elizabeth Dristle, in 1:53 flat, got fourth place in the 600 as Lauren Hubbs was sixth in the 1,000 and Weichert sixth in the 55 hurdles.
Dristle, Hubbs, Antonia Malvaso and Miranda Malvaso were third in the 4×800 in 11:42.37, with Hatt, Emily Mills, Alexis Malvaso and Marissa Malvaso fourth in the 4×200.
