Alfred E. “Fred” Fergerson

I am 65, a licensed funeral director, owner of the Fergerson Funeral Home, and am a life-time resident of the village. My family has lived on the same land in the village center for seven generations. We were
among the first settlers here in 1826.
Why are you running for village board?
I love this village and want to do everything possible, to help affect its future. As a public servant and as a neighbor and friend, my family and I know how decisions by government, particularly local government, can affect the quality of life for our residents and the vitality of our business community.
Why are you the best candidate?
I do not feel partisan politics has a place in village government. I never have joined a political party. My decisions are my own based on what I feel is best for the residents. Village Hall is the most accessible level of government and I strive to be a very accessible member. I believe the people know what’s best for this community and I feel a deep commitment to representing their views and their desire to preserve its future and character.
What are the issues facing the village, and how will you address them?
Keeping the village financially viable in the face of mounting unfunded state and federal mandates as well as cuts to revenue sharing is our most daunting challenge. I am proud to be part of the administration that has been able to mitigate these challenges through responsible budgeting. I envision my role as a trustee as that of a conservator charged with guarding an irreplaceable treasure.
Gary Butterfield

Married 38 years. One daughter, one son and daughter-in-law, one grandson. All live in the village.
Owner, Butterfield Construction. Served in the U.S. Air Force.
Why are you running for village board?
This will be my third term in office. I would like to see the completion of more sidewalks, the implementation of the Village Center Plan, improve highway shoulders for bicycles where possible.
Why are you the best candidate?
I still enjoy being a village trustee.
What are the issues facing the village, and how will you address them?
Continuing to track areas where we can save money. Pension costs, healthcare costs and unfunded mandates continue to be our biggest challenges.
