With bigger contests ahead, the Baldwinsville wrestling team relished the chance to rest and practice for much of the week following its semifinal appearance in the Jan. 19 Section III Dual Meet.
And though the Bees did wrestle against Auburn Thursday night, it proved a one-sided affair, B’ville claiming all but one of the matches in a 75-3 destruction of the Maroons.
They started at 195 pounds, and it took just 13 seconds for Brian Honsinger to pin Corey Swan. Immediately after, Jake Florack (220 pounds) pinned John Leone in 1:41, with Luke Earle (285 pounds) finishing off Mike Carbonaro in 2:29.
A forfeit to Kevin Lewis (99 pounds) preceded the Bees’ lone defeat, at 106 pounds, where David Rush dropped a 3-0 decision to Austin Duger.
Jeremy Pond (113 pounds), with an 8-5 win over Dustin Hogan, began the Bees’ sweep of the rest of the slate as Dominick Arcadi (120 pounds) and Brandon Schmid (126 pounds) both followed with pins and Vito Caloia (132 pounds) took a 9-8 classic over Dustin Swan.
Connor Ross had his own close match at 138 pounds, but held off Jeff Thurston 4-2, after which Brian Rush (145 pounds) pinned Noah Christianelli in the third period and Jake Norton (152 pounds) took 3:42 to pin Nick Campagnola.
It ended with Steve Petrelli, at 160 pounds, taking a forfeit, plus David Bird (170 pounds) pinning Nick Pysnack in 1:26 and Gunnar Sutphen (182 pounds) getting a pin over Brendan Malone in 3:46.
B’ville, 21-5 on the season, faces long-time rival Fulton next Wednesday in its last head-to-head meet of the season, after which it returns to Cicero-North Syracuse for a fourth time this winter to compete in next Saturday’s Section III Class AA championship meet.
