Now it was time for the Liverpool boys swim team to hit the heart of its schedule.
And it did so in a big way, going to Baldwinsville on Thursday night and, calling on its depth and versatility, defeating the Bees 54-41 as, at the same time, Cicero-North Syracuse took a 94-81 defeat to West Genesee.
Quickly, the Warriors went in front of the Bees by claiming the 200 medley relay, where the quartet of Troy Miller, Garrett Clarke, Drew Nann and Carl Tsang posted a time of one minutes, 50.17 seconds.
Tsang would later beat the field in the 100 freestyle in 56.92 seconds, part of a string of first-place finishes earned by Liverpool individuals.
Liam Henry, in the 200 individual medley, prevailed in 2:20.87, just before Drew Henry sped to the title in the 50 freestyle in 24.27 seconds. Connor Thiel would prevail in the 100 butterfly (1:02.06) as Matt Petit, in a time of 5:39.28, got the victory in the 500 freestyle.
Despite all this, Liverpool was not completely in the clear until the final event, the 500 freestyle, where Petit and Thiel, teaming with Dan Muldoon and Liam Henry, earned first place in a swift 3:43.63.
As this went on, C-NS visited West Genesee, taking a 2-1 record and finding modest success, but not quite enough to upend the Wildcats.
Ricky Blackburn would win the 200 freestyle, holding off teammate Ben Mozo, 1:56.25 to Mozo’s 1:58.88. Together, they would also get first place in the 200 freestyle relay, combining with Tim Han and Dan Eager to edge WG, 1:36.43 to the Wildcats’ 1:36.90.
Elsewhere, Blackburn swam the 100 freestyle in 52.07 seconds, just behind WG’s Collin Zapisek (50.34 seconds) as, in the 100 butterfly, Mozo was second (58.74 seconds), trailing another Wildcats swimmer, Matt O’Donell, who finished in 55.64 seconds.
Late in the meet, after Zach Dengos finished first in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.35), Blackburn, Mozo, Hahn and Eager returned to post a winning 3:42.34 in the 400 freestyle relay.
