Continuing to improve as the winter progresses, the Baldwinsville girls indoor track and field team registered a third-place finish in Thursday night’s John Arcaro Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena.
The holiday schedule broke up the Arcaro meet, the girls having its portion more than two weeks after the boys did on Dec. 19.
And while the girls Bees could not match the boys’ winning effort, it still picked up 42.5 points, topping most of a 22-team field. Only Fayetteville-Manlius (98 points) and Liverpool (63 points) fared better.
The big B’ville moment came in the 4×400 relay. Together, the quartet of Angelica Tomasello, Mackenzie Ross, Cierra Allen and Katie Wicks put up a time of four minutes, 14.10 seconds, winning that even over F-M (4:17.77) by more than three seconds.
Individually, Sarah Klaben threatened to win the 300-meter dash, posting 43.58 seconds in the sixth heat. That held up until the final heat, when Skaneateles’ Emma Ford finished in 43.51 seconds to prevail, leaving Klaben in the runner-up spot.
In the high jump, Emily Soeder actually shared the top clearance with East Syracuse-Minoa’s Nina Zesky, both surpassing 5 feet 2 inches. But Zesky did so with fewer misses, to Soeder had to settle for second place.
Hannah Wood had a strong showing in the 55-meter hurdles, getting to the line in 9.98 seocnds to grab third place and six points for the Bees. Pulaski’s Breanne Burns won in 8.81 seconds.
Marissa Lathrop ran 3,000 meters in 11:39.23, earning fourth place, just ahead of teammate Maizy Ludden (11:43.76) in fifth place. Ross was fifth in the 600-meter run in 1:44.85. Stephanie Vasteno got to fifth in the pole vault as she cleared 6’6” and added a sixth (7.85 seconds) in the 55-meter dash.
