With everyone on hand, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls indoor track and field team swept aside all competition during Thursday’s John Arcaro Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena.
Held more than two weeks after the boys Arcaro meet took place Dec. 19, the event saw the Hornets assert itself, mostly in distance running, and pick up 98 points, well clear of Liverpool’s runner-up total of 63 points.
Jamesville-DeWitt was fourth with 39 points, but did beat F-M in the 4×800 relay as Emilee Carpenter, Samantha Clemons, Rachel Fairbanks and Laura Wengert finished in 9:54.29, leaving the Hornets’ quartet of Jessica Howe, Annika Avery, Meghan Howe and Michelle Duffy second in 9:56.28.
No one could match F-M’s depth in events like the 1,500-meter run, where Alana Pearl won in 4:49.13 and Jillian Fanning (4:52.17) was third. East Syracuse-Minoa’s Natalie Marra took sixth place.
It was much the same in the 600-meter run, where Katie Brislin, in 1:40.89, got past teammate Olivia Ryan (1:41.86) in another 1-2 effort, while Fairbanks, in 1:42.41, nabbed fourth place for J-D.
Mary Barger, in 3:09.88, held off Marcellus star Rachel Garn (3:10.95) in the 1,000-meter run, while Jenna Farrell (10:55.96) and Michelle Duffy (10:58.68) were second and third, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run, accounting for 14 more points. Brislin, Ryan, Anna Perrotti and Marri Ryu finished second in the 4×400 relay in 4:17.77, with the Hornets also fifth in the 4×200.
Natalie Zazzara made her way to third place in the 300-meter dash in 43.87 as J-D’s Ally Fox edged Vasiliou for sixth place. Fox did better in the 55-meter dash, getting fourth place in 7.73 seconds, with F-M’s Caitlin Ferro sixth in the 55-meter hurdles.
Three different local teams won field events. J-D’s Vasiliou put together a top long jump of 16 feet 11 ½ inches, nearly half a foot better than Liverpool’s Tammy Brodie, while ESM’s Nina Zesky won the high jump, clearing 5’2” with fewer misses than Baldwinsville’s Emily Soeder.
For F-M, Christabel Ezidiegwu, with a triple jump of 34’7 ¼”, held off another Liverpool star, Catherine Rowell (34’4”) as J-D’s Patrece Martin (33’5”) was fourth. The Rams’ Tangela Hightower took third in the shot put, heaving it 31’.
