All is now in place for the West Genesee girls swim team as it looked toward next Wednesday night’s trip to Baldwinsville, where the CNY Counties League regular-season title would be on the line.
The Wildcats cleared the last hurdle to that clash in Wednesday’s meet at Oswego, where it again assaulted the record books in the course of a 97-79 victory over the Buccaneers.
Abby Uczen, who has not lost a diving meet all season, had one of her best efforts of the season, picking up 237.80 points to set an Oswego pool record for that event.
Then WG got another pool record in the 200-yard freestyle relay, where the quartet of Jessie Brusa, Sinead Guy, Kaitlin Dunning and Olivia Castro blazed to a time of one minute, 45.35 seconds.
In between all this, Brianna Smith earned first place in the 200 individual medley in 2:22.05 and also claimed the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:04.15.
Castro, by herself, also won a pair of events, needing just 25.42 seconds to claim the shortest event, the 50 freestyle (Brusa was third in 26.88 seconds), and then going to the longest event, the 500 freestyle, to win in a time of 5:23.80.
Becca Kanoza won a close 100 freestyle, 59.05 seconds to Guy’s 59.07, just after Shannon Cahalan earned a victory in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.74, with Abby Mullett second in 1:07.93.
Erin Dowler tacked on a victory in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.25, long after she had opened the meet by helping Cahalan, Smith and Castro claim first in the 200 medley relay in 2:00.13.
