At some point, it figures to get easier for the Cicero-North Syracuse football team, who keep going from one extreme to the other without breaking into the win column.
Eight days after the excruciating 2-0 defeat to Corcoran on Sept. 21, the Northstars met another city opponent, and this time could not stop anything in Saturday’s 54-13 defeat to Henninger at Sunnycrest Park.
By winning, Henninger stayed tied for the top spot in the Class AA-2 division at 3-0 (4-1 overall) and set up a first-place showdown with CBA this weekend. Meanwhile, C-NS continues its long search for answers.
None were found in the early going against the Black Knights, who broke things open with 22 unanswered points in the second quarter.
A pair of short touchdown runs by Chris Hicks put his team in front, 14-0, and Henninger followed it up with more from its ground game. Darrel West went three yards for TD and Keisean Scott sped 23 yards to another.
That scoring continued deep into the second half, as Scott added a second TD and Romero Collier finished off two other scoring drives with short runs into the end zone.
Not until the fourth quarter did C-NS find something to smile about. Duquan Mathis ran three yards for one TD and Tyler Griffo threw a four-yard scoring pass to Anthony Small, all of it after the Black Knights rested its starters.
C-NS faces another tough challenge Friday when it visits defending Class AA champion Liverpool for a 6 p.m. kickoff. The Wildcats are 2-1 in league play and 2-3 overall, but two of those defeats came to Clarence and Fayetteville-Manlius by a single point apiece.
