Lysander officials discussed the Route 370 bridge repair during the Aug. 27 board meeting.
According to Salisbury, the New York State Department of Transportation has made a decision regarding replacing the bridge deck and other repairs to the bridge, which connects the Cold Spring Peninsula to Liverpool along Route 370. The plan is to close the bridge completely for two weeks (next summer) then open a one-way lane heading east bound only for 28 weeks.
“You can get to work, it’s just getting home that’ll be a bear,” Salisbury said.
Officials said closing the bridge will negatively impact businesses along the 370/Cold Springs Peninsula corridor. It will also cause congestion in the village.
Town officials asked residents to call and write letters to elected representatives including Sen. John DeFrancisco and Assemblyman Will Barclay asking them to help facilitate a better solution to the problem.
Councilor Art Levy said the town should have a specific proposal to bring to elected officials so they can present it alongside town officials to the DOT. He said the letter should state, “This is specifically what we would like to see happen; can you help us?”
Mayor Joseph Saraceni briefly spoke suggesting the board propose installing an alternating light to allow westbound traffic. He also talked about the DOT completing the Baldwinsville bypass, which would connect Route 631 to Downer Street in the village. A bridge connecting Wetzel Road to Patchett Road over the Seneca River was also briefly brought up. Officials talked about looking into federal grant monies to fund these potential projects.
