Chittenango’s boys lacrosse team, who began the season with four consecutive defeats, finally found its way into the win column.
The Bears did so in last Tuesday night’s game against Whitesboro, surviving raw, cold conditions to get past the Warriors 10-7.
Even on this night, Chittenango had a rough time early, trailing 3-1 after one period. But the Bears turned everything around in the second quarter, blanking Whitesboro and scoring four straight times to seize a 5-3 lead.
After the Warriors closed within 6-5, the Bears gradually got away in the final period, mostly on the work of Devin Phelps, who had a hand in all but one of the Bears’ scoring plays, finishing with four goals and five assists.
Kyle Zimmer and Garrett Sadler each scored twice, while Aaron Jones had a goal and two assists. Steve Billington added one goal and one assist. Connor Shea had a terrific game in the net, recording 16 saves.
After that, the Bears were off until games this week against Fulton and Cortland. Both the boys and girls Chittenango sides will face the Red Raiders and Purple Tigers, with the boys taking on Clinton Saturday as the girls meet Whitesboro.
