Barely a week into the season, the familiar narrative of the West Genesee boys lacrosse team leaving all Section III Class A challengers behind them has taken hold.
The Wildcats followed up its solid 11-6 win over Baldwinsville on March 31 by going to the new turf field at Fayetteville-Manlius on Wednesday night and imposing its will on the Hornets in the first half of a 16-4 romp.
From dominating the draws to sharp, precise attacks and fine defensive work, everything WG worked on in the first half proved fruitful. By the time F-M could recuperate at halftime, the Wildcats owned an 11-1 lead.
WG maintained that margin the rest of the way. Emily Tripodi served as the anchor of the attack, dishing out six assists to go with a pair of goals.
Those passes went to Erica Geremia, Kara Datellas and Liz LaComb, who managed three goals apiece. Shannon Hawley matched Tripodi’s two-goal output as Nicole Bello, Hannah Elmer and Michaela Ciciarelli earned one goal apiece.
In between the marquee matchups with Baldwinsville and F-M, the Wildcats hosted Section V power Honeoye Falls-Lima last Monday night and steadily pulled away for an 18-8 victory.
Each half featured WG outscoring the visiting Cougars 9-4. It also saw Emily Tripodi settle into the comfortable role of distributor, constantly finding her teammates for open shots that would end up in the net.
Overall, Tripodi had seven assists, to go with two goals. Those passes mostly went to Kara Datellas and Erica Geremia, each of whom finished with five goals. Shelby Milne, Vicki Graveline, Riley Donahue and Liz LaComb earned one goal apiece.
WG, now at 3-0 following the F-M romp, heads back to the road Tuesday night, going to Alibrandi Stadium to face defending state Class C champion CBA, before a trip next Thursday to Cicero-North Syracuse.
