Village officials recently implemented a $100 fee for installing and removing banners that hang along Oswego Street in the village’s business district. This decision was based on the costs incurred by Baldwinsville’s Department of Public Works in equipment, resources and man hours.
After making the decision, the American Cancer Society requested the village waive the banner fee for the Baldwinsville Relay for Life. Officials considered the request during the March 1 board meeting, but decided the fee would stand.
“It comes down to covering an expense,” Mayor Joseph Saraceni said.
Officials noted that while they realize many of the banners hung in the village promote events held by not-for profit organizations attempting to fundraise for their causes, the village simply cannot pass this expense onto the tax payer any longer.
