When the Baldwinsville girls basketball team disposed of Auburn on Jan. 3, it marked the team’s third consecutive win as it improved to 8-1 at the midway point of the regular season.
Nine days passed before the Bees took the court again for game action on Thursday night– and perhaps that break cost B’ville some momentum, if a 59-45 defeat to Corcoran was any indication.
A perennial title contender, Corcoran had tailed off a bit this season, only carrying a 6-5 mark into its clash with the Bees.
Yet the Cougars jumped all over B’ville, taking advantage of the hosts’ shaky start to grab a 16-5 lead by the end of the first quarter.
In the long run, that start proved decisive, as for the rest of the game the Bees played on close to even terms, but were unable to eat into that deficit.
Andrea Moore led B’ville with 10 points, while Maggie Monnat got held to eight points. Gabi Jordan and Morgan Marshall had six points apiece. Corcoran’s Mary Morgan had 17 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, while Shautesha Bryant and Jhontay Giles had 10 points apiece.
B’ville would stay at home Tuesday to play Henninger before a Friday trip to Liverpool, who lost an 86-76, quadruple-overtime game to West Genesee on the same night the Bees fell to Corcoran.
