Capping off a month of unbroken success, the Cazenovia girls indoor track and field team earned the Mohawk Valley Indoor Track Association Division I championship Tuesday night at Colgate University’s Sanford Field House.
Though Rome Free Academy offered a serious challenge, the Lakers, with 209.5 points, still took the top spot, leaving the Black Knights second with 148 points.
Paige Biviano again dominated in the 55-meter hurdles, prevailing in 9.19 seconds, and won the long jump by going 15 feet 9 inches as Liz Pittman was third (14 feet 3 ½ inches) and Beth Marcelle sixth. Biviano added a second in the high jump (4 feet 9 inches), ahead of Marie Sugio in fourth and Allissa Parrella in sixth.
Jillian Vogl and Ashley Winn went 1-2 in the 300-meter dash, as Vogl won in 42.87 seconds. Winn was second here (43.27 seconds), but claimed the 55-meter dash in 7.57 seconds as Liz Pittman took fifth. Vogl, Ashley Kent, Jessie Matt and Anna Schultz roared to victory in the 4×200 relay in 1:55.21.
Caroline Marshall earned a victory in the 1,500-meter run in 5:03.19, with Margaret Wolsey third in 5:29.45. Jeannette Cudney stepped up and won the 3,000-meter run in a clocking of 11:10.23, with Tori Wright fifth and Meredith Shephard sixth. Grace Milmoe got second in the 600-meter run in 1:53.91, while Maureen Milmoe was fourth (1:54.63).
Rae Tobey earned third place in the 1,000-meter run in 3:29.67, where Evelyn Wells was sixth. Cudney, Tobey, Megan Stanford and Tori Wright made their way to second place in the 4×800 relay in 10:52.60.
Glenna Kelehan and Maria vanNieuwland tied for second in the pole vault, both of them clearing 5 feet 6 inches. Pittman got second in the triple jump by going 29 feet 1 ¾ inches, ahead of Maureen Milmoe (28 feet 10 inches) in third and Stanford (28 feet 5 ½ inches) in fourth.
Also in field events, Molly Woodworth threw the shot put 30 feet 2 ½ inches and claimed second place, while Carly Hazer was fourth. Sarah Haley, sixth in the shot put,rose to second in the weight throw, going 25 feet 8 inches, where Hazer was fifth and Woodworth took sixth place.
Cazenovia’s boys team earned 114 points in its MVITA Division I meet, second among five teams behind RFA (172 points) as Chittenango earned 58 points for fourth place.
Billy Bigsby dominated in distance races. He ran the mile in 5:10.36, with Sean Satchwell second in 5:20 flat, and won the 3,200-meter run in 10:33.86, leaving Satchwell in third (10:49.15). Chittenango’s Jon Roberts and Ben Seale were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the latter race, with Kenny Galbraith third (5:20.94) in the mile, ahead of Roberts in fourth.
Teddy Tormey, David Ayer, Nick Tedesco and Alan Devone rose to second in the 4×400 relay in 4:00.49, with the Bears in fourth. Matt Donovan was fourth in the 55 sprint in 7.16 seconds, while Anthony Randino was fourth in the 55 hurdles. Donovan, Randino, Doyle Judge and Dylan Muller got second in the 4×200 (1:38.65), with Chittenango fourth.
Lucas Rogers gave Chittenango a second-place finish in the 1,000 (2:58.74), with Kenny Galbraith fourth. Jason Given took second in the 600 in 1:29.65 (the Lakers’ Alex Devine was fifth) and third in the 300 sprint in 39.27 seconds, and he also teamed with Galbraith, Roberts and Rogers for third (9:37.54), ahead of Cazenovia (9:53.69) in the 4×800.
In field events, Muller stood out, winning the pole vault as he cleared 12 feet 6 inches, leaving Connor Ellsworth in fourth. Muller also earned second in the triple jump, going 38 feet 7 inches, as Judge took fifth place and Ryker Smith was sixth.
Cameron Braathen had a third-place shot put toss of 39 feet 5 inches, ahead of Ayer in fifth and Matt Staiger in sixth. Braathen also was thrd in the weight throw (36 feet 10 inches), with Staiger rising to fifth. Randino was fourth (18 feet 2 inches) and Smith sixth in the long jump. In the high jump, Smith and Judge each cleared 5 feet 2 inches, tying for fifth.
