A grant to implement the second phase of the Canal Landing Park has been awarded to the village of Fayetteville.
The $150,000 grant was awarded through Central New York’s $103 million given by the governor’s Regional Economic Development plan. Though the village originally applied for a bit more than $258,000 as part of a matching grant, the $150,000 will be a help to get the second phase running in the park, said Mayor Mark Olson.
“What helped us is we’ve proven how successful the park is and we were told if phase one went well, [the state park department] would like to see the whole project follow through.”
The park, situated behind Freedom of Espresso and along Limestone Creek, was unveiled in spring 2011.
Phase two of that project is to build a pedestrian bridge over Limestone Creek to connect the Erie Canal pathway to the area behind town hall on Brooklea Drive.
A preliminary, estimated budget for the project brought the cost to $517,420, but Olson said the village will re-evaluate costs and will look to re-engineer the project.
“It’s a public works project, we can do a lot of it in-house,” Olson said.
The village will also seek additional grant funds to finish off the park’s master plan.
