Silver Fox seniors enjoyed an intergenerational celebration last Tuesday, Dec. 20.
“It was heartwarming to see the interaction between generations, as faces lit up while exchanging hugs, handshakes and stories,” said Rebecca Kishtok, executive director of the center. “It also brought the seniors back to their childhood and special holiday memories with their own children.”
The Baldwinsville senior social club kicked off festivities with a visit from Elden Elementary fifth graders who performed numerous holiday songs for the crowd, one of which featured a guest performance from Sen. John DeFrancisco.
In addition to the state senator, the holiday celebration also featured Baldwinsville Mayor Joseph Saraceni, as well as Sharon Reiser from the Baldwinsville Chamber and Kim Hummell from the Veteran’s Association. Seniors were also offered the opportunity to have their picture taken with Santa, courtesy of Baldwinsville’s Walgreens, and enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies with friends and family.
“It was wonderful to have support from the community including all the teachers, parents of the children, and volunteers,” Kishtok said.
Located at 22 E. Genesee St. in the village, Silver Fox is a not-for-profit senior day program, which provides care for seniors in Onondaga County including three meals a day, therapeutic recreational activities and a hair salon. The center’s certified home health aides also assist members with any personal care.
“[Silver Fox] allows caregivers respite and they can rest assured their loved ones are in good hands and well cared for,” Kishtok said.
