For a second time, local indoor track and field teams made their way to Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena, this time to take part in Wednesday’s John Arcaro Memorial Invitational, where three different individuals earned impressive wins.
Marcellus finished seventh in the boys portion of the meet, claiming 23 points. Westhill/Bishop Ludden (16 points) tied for ninth, while West Genesee settled for seven points.
The Mustangs’ Ryan Manahan offered a dominant performance in the mile. He covered the 1,600 meters in four minutes, 21.47 seconds, more than 15 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Mexico’s James Gowans.
Nate Waite took third in the long jump, going 18 feet ¼ inch, while Brian O’Connell got third in the high jump, clearing 5 feet 6 inches. Justin Garn added a sixth in the 500-meter run
Also, Westhill/Ludden’s Corey Wilkinson won the shot put for the second week in a row, earning a top toss of 44 feet 3 ½ inches as WG’s Paul Wojcik (38 feet 10 inches) was fifth.
Wilkinson’s teammate, Alex Phelan, cleared 11 feet for third place in the pole vault, while WG teammates Peter James and Nico Rinaldo tied for fifth, both clearing 10 feet 6 inches. The Wildcats’ Martin Leff rose to fifth (2:41.59) in the 1,000-meter run.
On the girls side, Westhill/Bishop Ludden tied for sixth, earning 20 points, while Marcellus shared ninth place with 14 points. West Genesee (nine points), Solvay (7.7 points) and Jordan-Elbridge (four points) followed.
Westhill/Ludden’s Jessica Curry emerged with a victory in the 1,000-meter run, crossing the line in three minutes, 6.38 seconds as teammate Betsy Black was third in 3:13.15.
Marcellus saw Rachel Garn claim second place in the 500-meter run in 1:24.51, followed by Westhill/Ludden’s Emily Mizer (1:25.87) in fourth place. The Mustangs’ Daniella Henle tied for third in the high jump, clearing 4 feet 10 inches.
WG’s Emily Frazee earned second place in the long jump, going 15 feet 3 inches, while Brianna Richardson was sixth (30 feet 3 ½ inches) in the triple jump.
Solvay’s Kyndra Jackson earned third place in the shot put with 31 feet 3 ¼ inches, followed closely by J-E’s Megan Greenwood (31 feet 2 inches) in fourth place. Also for the Bearcats, Abby Frateschi tied for fourth in the pole vault, clearing 7 feet 6 inches.
