Still dealing with all the changes within its roster, the Skaneateles boys soccer team stepped into OHSL Liberty division play and had both positive and negative moments against two of its main rivals.
First, the Lakers visited Marcellus Tuesday night, and found that its attack still had its potent side during a 4-1 victory over the Mustangs.
Having already lost to CBA and Jamesville-DeWitt the week before, Marcellus could not get its defense settled, Skaneateles going up 2-0 by halftime.
Alex Brownlee would find the net twice, while B.J. Kerr managed one goal and one assist. Sam Goodell also converted, with Ian Hilpl adding an assist. Nate Waite had the Mustangs’ lone goal in the second half.
However, when Skaneateles returned home to face Cazenovia two days later, it went in an entirely different direction as the visitors won the battle of Laker teams by a 2-0 margin.
Amid chilly temperatures better suited to mid-November than mid-September, both sides had a fair amount of opportunities.
The difference was that Cazenovia converted on two of them, one in each half, Luke Dorsey and James Duffy earning the goals. Erik Pola, in defeat, recorded five saves.
Now it’s imperative that Skaneateles (1-3) pick things up in games early next week against Homer and Jordan-Elbridge before the Finger Lakes Cup, which takes place Sept. 23 and 24.
