Do you think chickens should be allowed in Syracuse?

This week’s cover story takes a look at the growing hobby of keeping backyard micro-flocks of chickens in urban environments. Proponents say the chickens are quiet, clean and lower-maintenance than dogs, and allow them to “get closer” to their food sources and value their food more.

In the city of Syracuse, chickens are considered a farm animal and are therefore prohibited. But in some cities, including Rochester, the rules were rewritten to allow residents to keep small flocks on the urban properties.

What do you think? Should Syracuse residents be allowed to keep chickens at home, or would the hens be a nuisance?
