Once again, the Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool girls volleyball teams would line up against each other – and this time, the Northstars would prevail.
During this four-game match last Wednesday night, the two sides started on rather even terms. CNS claimed the first game 25-22, only to see the Warriors storm back and earn a 25-19 victory in the second game.
That defeat, though, only seemed to make the Northstars angry, for in each of the next two games it lay into Liverpool, winning them by equal 25-15 margins to take the match.
On a balanced CNS front line, Alex Silfer had eight kills and three aces, while Stephanie Gagnon earned seven kills. Cara Gannett contributed four kills, four blocks and two aces. Meghan Ross gathered up 15 assists, three kills, three blocks and four aces, with Lindsey Silfer adding six assists, three aces and three kills.
As for the Warriors, Anna Daucher put away 12 kills, while Dorothy Rosekrans had eight kills. Paige Calbrese, with six digs, offered the defense as Jenna Street put together 23 assists, Four digs, four kills and two blocks.
Liverpool began its week by cruising through last Monday’s match against Institute of Technology Central with a 25-14, 25-10, 25-10 sweep.
Up front, Daucher led with seven kills, while Stephanie Mumpton had six kills and four aces. Street had five aces, four assists and three kills. Meghan Stonebarger gained 10 assists, four aces and three kills as Chelsey Fodaro contributed eight assists.
After the CNS loss, the Warriors rebounded to sweep Fowler 25-4, 25-10, 25-8 on Friday night. Fodaro mixed in six aces and assists, with Mumpton gaining five kills and four aces. Street also had four aces as Katie Rowell contributed four kills. Cassi McCrum and Sarah Milligan got three aces apiece.
Meanwhile, the Northstars handled Central Square in three games, though it nearly got extended before finishing off the Red Hawks in a 25-21, 25-13, 27-25 sweep. Ross, who finished with 12 assists, saw her passes go to Alex Silfer, who had five kills, and Gannett, who had four kills. Lindsey Silfer mixed in four assists, four blocks, three kills and two aces.
