Out to protect a 20-meet win streak within the OHSL Freedom division, the Jamesville-DeWitt boys cross country team pulled it off against both of its closest neighbors.
Despite stronger individuals on the other sides, the Red Rams beat the Spartans 24-33 and also took out the Bears 23-32 Wednesday at Jamesville Beach Park. ESM toppled Chittenango 27-30 to salvage its own split.
ESM’s Mike Coogan dominated the race, pulling away from Chittenango’s Josiah Durfee and the rest of the field. Coogan won in 16 minutes, four seconds, with Durfee (16:45) well back.
J-D’s best runner, Dan Driscoll, took third place in 17:13, while Austin Davis worked his way to fifth place, edging out teammate Jack Haley as both finished in 17:22.
Still, it took Will Hohreiter finishing eighth (17:43) and Isaac Tupper taking 10th place (18:11) for the Rams to hold on, as ESM’s Louis Ferrone finished seventh in 17:32 and Jesse Perrone (18:10) took ninth place.
Nothing as close happened in the girls meet, where J-D easily beat ESM 19-42 and also took out Chittenango by an 18-41 margin. The Spartans edged the Bears 27-32.
Ameena Dye, with a winning time of 20:29, paced a 1-2 Red Rams finish as Katie Pinkes slid into second place in 21:03.
ESM’s Gabrielle Pallotta led her side by finshing third in 21:13 before J-D’s Rebecca Bergman got fourth place (21:18). The Spartans’ Megan Crandall (22:04) topped the Rams’ Avery Share (22:07) to finish ninth.
