North Syracuse judge nominated for town candidacy
During a June 29 caucus, the Cicero Democrats unanimously nominated Robert J. Bertrand, village of North Syracuse justice and practicing attorney, as candidate for town of Cicero Justice.
“I am truly honored by the nomination and proudly accept it,” Bertrand said. “As town justice, I pledge to continue Judge Putzer’s legacy of fairness and commitment to the law.”
Bertrand attended the Syracuse University School of Law, graduating in 1979. Soon after he moved to Cicero and joined the private law practice that is now Bertrand, Arno, Welch & Putzer.
Three years later Bertrand was elected as Justice in the village of North Syracuse. There he has served his community with honor for 27 years. As Judge, Bertrand has overseen more than 45,000 cases.
Bertrand began considering a run after current Justice Carl Putzer announced his intent to retire from the Cicero bench.
“Judge Putzer has been the moral compass of our town for nearly 16 years and I am proud to call him my friend and colleague,” Bertrand said.
Sheri Mitchell, chair of the Cicero Democrats, said the party is pleased with the nomination of Bertrand.

Bertrand is currently a justice in the village of North Syracuse. He has lived in Cicero for 30 years, during which he has been an active citizen and small business owner.
“It has been a privilege for me to serve the people of North Syracuse as village justice,” Bertrand said. “I look forward to bringing my experience and dedication to the town of Cicero.”
Bertrand has a large extended family in the area, as well as a daughter, Dede, and grandson Austen.
