Both of Morrisville-Eaton’s track and field teams would have high finishes during the Section III Class C-2 championship meets held at the end of May. Going first on May 27, the girls Warriors went to Westmoreland for its C-2 meet and finished third, earning 72 points. Beaver River won with 170 points as West Canada Valley (120 points) claimed the runner-up spot. M-E won the 4×400 relay as Emily Sherwood, Hannah Edinger, Taylor Gallup and Jada Klein posted a time of 4:21 flat that beat Westmoreland by 2.4 seconds. The Warriors added a fifth in the 4×100 relay (54.7 seconds) and sixth in the 4×800 relay. On her own, Sherwood was second in the 100-meter dash in 13.5 seconds and fifth in the 200-meter dash (27.9 seconds), with Edinger getting second place in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.4. Gallup was fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:33.9. Kim Horton had a busy day. She tied for second in the high jump (4 feet 10 inches), took third place in the 100-meter high hurdles in 18.0 seconds, got fourth in the pole vault and added a sixth in the 400-meter hurdles. Amber Smalley was second in the triple jump, going 31 feet 10 1/2 inches and adding a fifth in the long jump, just behind teammate Kate Verne (14 feet 3 1/2 inches) in fourth place. Verne also was fourth in the triple jump. M-E served as the host venue for the May 29 boys Class C-2 championships, where M-E was fifth, earning 63 points, one behind fourth-place Dolgeville. Beaver River won here, too, earning 130 points as, again, West Canada (92 points) got second. Jarred Kent swept the sprints. He earned a victory in the 100, edging out Mohawk’s Kris Mills, 11.421 seconds to 11.427, then got a clear title in the 200 with 23.47 seconds as Dolgeville’s Zach Goyette (23.71) settled for second place. Kent also shared second in the high jump by clearing 5 feet 6 inches.
Alex Marris earned second place in the pentathlon, his total of 2,091 points trailing WCV’s Mac McMahon, who won with 2,114 points. Marris led by one point going into the final event, the 1,500-meter run, but McMahon beat him by 4.16 seconds. Keenen LeBlanc claimed second in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.03 and was third in the 400 (53.70 seconds), while Austin Hirsch was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:48.8) and fourth in the mile in 4:46.07 before adding a fifth in the 3,200-meter run. Ryan Schruise was sixth in the long jump. Canastota earned 31 points at the May 27 sectional Class B-2 meet in Marcellus, the best finish coming in the triple jump where Chris Barnhart went 40 feet 10 1/4 inches, just 1 1/4 inches behind Holland Patent’s Craig Ashcroft. Zach Szkolnick, Aaron Walker, Ryan McDowell and Jerod Gibson-Faber earned third place in the 4×800 relay in 8:50.72. The Raiders also took fourth in the 4×400 relay in 3:40.80 as Gibson-Faber finished sixth in the 400 and Szkolnick was sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase. C.J. Melander ran to fourth place in the 100-meter dash in 12.05 seconds. Walker had a fifth-place time of 4:37.30 in the mile. Ryan Pedersen was fourth in the pentathlon.
