As the cap to another successful season, the Skaneateles boys golf team will send two of its top performers to this weekend’s state championship tournament. Eric Edmunds and Jeff Baldetti earned that honors through their play in the Section III tournament, played last week at Colgate University’s Seven Oaks course in Hamilton. During Thursday’s opening round, Edmunds shot a 78, tying for second, one shot behind New Hartford’d Derek Bard. Baldetti posted an 85 and was tied for 15th. That pair, plus Bryan Stokes-Cawley (86) advanced to Saturday’s final round. Stokes-Cawley could not move up the board on Saturday – but Baldetti did, improving to a 79 to earn seventh place. Meanwhile, Edmunds earned a 77, again beating everyone except Bard, who had the winning total of 153. Edmunds, Baldetti and Bard are joined by Eric David, Jake Merola (both from Jamesville-DeWitt), Luke Smith, Connor Salanger (both from West Genesee), Brad Monroe (Cicero-North Syracuse) and Ryan Clark (South Jefferson) on the Section III team going to Cornell University’s course in Ithaca for the state championship, which runs Saturday through Monday. This marks the third straight year Baldetti has medaled at the sectiona meet, and he returned to Seven Oaks on Sunday to compete in the Optimist qualifier. Baldetti shot a 3-over-par 75 and won the Optimist event. That gave him the invitation to compete in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship played at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., from July 27 to Aug. 1.
