Jordan-Elbridge’s girls track and field team nearly went to the top spot during the May 27 Section III Class B-2 championship meet at Solvay’s Earl Hadley Stadium.
Overall, the Eagles earned 119 points, beating everyone except Holland Patent, who prevailed with 148 points. Lowville was third with 95 points.
In the 100-meter dash, Rachel Betts won in 13.18 seconds, with McKenzie Williams sixth as Betts ran to fourth in the 200-meter dash.
Rachel Scott, with a time of 1:07.80, finished second in the 400-meter hurdles as Lisa Kimak (1:10.87) finished fifth. Scott also took third in the 400-meter dash (1:04.18), with Rachel Hare fifth.
Kimak was second in the high jump (4 feet 10 inches) and took third in the 100-meter high hurdles (17.53 seconds). In the 4×400 relay, Scott, Kimak, Williams and Kim Foltz were second in 4:17.02, just behind Holland Patent (4:16.60) at the wire.
Foltz earned second place in the 800-meter run in 2:26.15 and helped Phebe Alley, Julia Conlan and Allison Donahue finish second in the 4×800 relay in 10:44.52. Mackezni Sawyer had a second-place triple jump of 31 feet 11 3/4 inches, with Emma Cooney sixth as Sawyer got to sixth in the long jump.
Alley, on her own, was third in the 1,500-meter run (5:35.80) and fourth in the 3,000-meter run (12:11.78), while Alison Donahue took third (8:55.0) and Abby Comstock fifth in the 2,000-meter steeplechase.
Courtney Hourigan earned second place in the pentathlon with 1,702 points, with Molly Hourigan fifth in the high jump. Megan Greenwood claimed fourth in the shot put.
Meanwhile, in the simultaneous Class B-1 meet at Solvay, Marcellus had 42 points to finish sixth, while Westhill and the host Bearcats got 22 points apiece.
Marcellus won the 4×800 relay, where Lizzy Dean, Rachel Garn, Maggie Dunn and Laura Quercia posted a time of 9:50.75. Westhill was fourth, in 10:36.78, and Solvay finished sixth.
Garn earned her own victory in the 3,000 with a time of 11:05.76, while Dean earned second place in the 1,500 in 5:07.76, where Dunn finished fifth. Quercia claimed third in the 400 (1:01.76) sprint as Chelsea Tarolli was fifth in the 200. The Mustangs were fourth in the 4×100.
Solvay’s quartet of Rebecca Quick, Kim Kirkpatrick, Anna Salvagno and Christina Clemente got third place in the 4×100 relay in 53.92 seconds and also earned fourth place in the 4×400 relay in 4:23.31.
Clemente, on his own, took fourth in the 400. Michelle Slowik finished fourth in the long jump, with Chrissy Frateshi sixth in the discus and Kyndra Jackson sixth in the shot put. Abby Frateschi was sixth in the pole vault.
Westhill’s Katie Powers ran to third in the 2,000 steeplechase (8:01.3). Kathryn Christensen tied for third in the high jump, clearing 4 feet 10 inches, while Susan Lopez claimed sixth place in the 3,000 and Megan Dermody sixth in the pentathlon.
In the Class AA meet at Cicero-North Syracuse, West Genesee finished seventh out of 12 teams, with 22 points.
Eighth-grader Laura Leff was second in the 2,000 steeplechase in 7:23.43. Katie Bott had a third-place time of 2:15.30 in the 800 and also was second in the 200 (26.71 seconds). Emily Barriere took sixth place in the pentathlon with 1,930 points.
