Seven long months since it last played a competitive round, the Jamesville-DeWitt boys golf team made a triumphant return at last Monday’s Section III Class A championship at Radisson Greens. In a field full of opponents that had played in the spring, the Red Rams edged past one of them, Tri-Valley League champion New Hartford, to earn the top spot, with a team score of 407 to the Spartans’ 410. Another Tri-Valley entry, Whitesboro, as was third with 417. Erik Davis led J-D with a seven-over-par 79, finishing fourth among individuals, just three shots back of New Hartford’s Derek Bard for the top spot. Jake Merola, with an 80, tied for fifth place, while Tom Schulte shared seventh with an 81 and Deke Burns, with an 81, shared 11th place. Dan LaClair posted an 85 to share 20th place and join Davis, Merola, Schulte and Burns as qualifiers for the overall sectional tournament held Thursday and Saturday at Colgate University’s Seven Oaks course. East Syracuse-Minoa, who had a team score of 431, would send four players to Seven Oaks — even though three of them were right in the midst of a baseball season. Mike Brown-Miller led the Spartans with an 81. Just a day before starting out in the Section III Class A baseball playoffs, Ben Loder shot an 84, while Travis Oot and Billy Sullivan posted matching totals of 85.
