To say that the second girls lacrosse showdown between Baldwinsville and West Genesee differed from the first meeting would be slightly understating it, on many levels. This was on the Bees’ home grass at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium, not the faster artificial surface in Camillus. And unlike the 11-8 encounter back on April 8, both sides lit it up on the offensive side, scoring more goals in the first half of the rematch than in the entire first game. Yet the result was the same — the Wildcats in front, this time in a 20-9 decision that got quite emphatic as the second half wore on. During that wild 13-7 first half, neither defense proved sharp. Yet WG won a majority of the draws, allowing itself more possession time, more scoring chances — and ultimately, more conversions. As the second half wore on, though, WG started to close ranks, and the Bees could not adjust. Worried about a multitude of attackers, B’ville saw the stars , especially Morgan Corso (four goals, five assists), Karlyn Tupper and Katey Hart (five goals each) carry the Wildcats along. Samantha Yaro, in defeat, had three goals, while Becky Guzzo and Sarah Clark earned two goals apiece. Erin Ward and Meg Haney had the other tallies, while Mackenzie Kjerstad and Claire Monnat earned assists. B’ville rebounded Friday night to smash Central Square 19-4, building a double-digit margin, 11-1, by halftime and getting most of its roster some playing time. Meg Cuddy had a strong night, matching Clark with four goals as Clark added a pair of assists. Claire Monnat had three goals and three assists, while Yaro scored twice and Maggie Monnat earned five assists. Gentile, Kjerstad, Jessica Roberts, Katie Sullivan and Kim Contant had one goal apiece. At home all through the last week of the regular season, B’ville (10-4, 6-2 league) would meet Auburn Tuesday and Cicero-North Syracuse on Thursday night.
