Now was the time for the Hamilton softball team to remind everyone that it was still the class of its Center State Conference division.
The Emerald Knights exacted a frightful revenge on Westmoreland last Monday afternoon, using a big first inning as the catalyst for a 14-5 romp over the Bulldogs.
Beaten at Westmoreland back on April 26, Hamilton jumped all over Julie Harrison in the rematch for eight runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Katie Weeks started the rally with a double, then capped it off with a home run a few minutes later. In between, Jordan Peterson launched her own three-run home run.
A five-run sixth inning added further security as Weeks finished with three hits, two stolen bases, two runs scored and four RBIs. Peterson, Sam Martin, Sara Whyatt and Jenna Whyatt each got two hits and Hamilton produced 15 hits overall. Martin also pitched, striking out six Bulldogs.
On Friday, the Emerald Knights returned and, in the course of a doubleheader sweep of Sherburne-Earlville (both games went five innings), got something special from seventh-grader Rebecca Rogers in the nightcap.
During a 10-0 conquest of the Marauders, Rogers threw a perfect game – 15 up, 15 down – with eight strikeouts. Weeks led at the plate with a triple and two doubles as Sara Whyatt also tripled. A six-run fourth inning put things away.
Hamilton also reached double digits in the opener, winning 11-4 by scoring in every inning. Rogers, showing her prowess at the plate, went deep for a home run, as did Peterson as Martin pitched and got the win.
In yet another doubleheader on Saturday, Hamilton earned yet another sweep, bashing Brookfield 20-2 and blanking Remsen 7-0.
A 12-run first inning got the Emerald Knights moving
against the Beavers, as Peterson and Allie Hanson both hit home runs and Martin, in support of her own pitching, tripled.
Rogers took her pitching turn against Remsen and this time came up with a two-hit shutout, though Hamilton did not get away until a six-run fifth inning capped by Peterson’s grand slam.
