F-M track teams complete league sweep

Even in a strong and deep CNY Counties League American division, the Fayetteville-Manlius track and field teams still would go undefeated.

The last hurdle (literally and figuratively) got cleared on Wednesday afternoon as the Hornets went to Auburn and won 99-42 on the girls side and 92-48 on the boys side to sweep the Maroons.

In the girls meet, Audrey Wallace pushed F-M along with a trio of individual titles. After winning the 100-meter high hurdles (17.2 seconds), Wallace covered the 400-meter hurdles in 1:12.2 and went 30 feet 7 1/4 inches to prevail in the triple jump.

Alexa Capozzi helped, too, taking the long jump (15 feet 5 1/4 inches) and tying with Sara Rothschild in the high jump, both of them clearing 4 feet 6 inches.

On the oval, Molly Levy ran the 100-meter dash in 13.1 seconds, while Molly Malone needed 1:00.3 to win at 400 meters. Courtney Chapman took first in the 800-meter run (2:23.1) as Hannah Luber blazed to first in the 1,500-meter run in 4:41.8 and Jillian Fanning claimed the 3,000-meter run in 10:15.7.

F-M also swept the relays. Chapman, Heather Martin, Jillian Fanning and Kathryn Fanning took part in the 4×800 (10:02.9) as Malone, Chapman, Wallace and Martin covered the 4×400 in 4:15.3. In the 4×100, Rothschild, Alyssa Hamel, Katelyn Gualtieri and Hannah Lee finished in 54 seconds flat.

Moving to the boys meet, Ryan Jones would win three times for the Hornets taking the 100 (11.4 seconds) and 200 (23.9 seconds) sprints before going 20 feet 2 inches in the high jump. Chris Ruggeri, who cleared 6 feet 2 inches in the high jump, also took the 110 high hurdles in 16.4 seconds.

In distance events, Brendan Farrell barreled to victory in the 3,200-meter run in 9:46.9, this after Mark McGurrin had a quick mile of 4:23.9 and Ben Thomas took the 800 in 2:05.2.

Alex Hatz limited his individual work to the 400-meter dash, which he won in 51.4 seconds. Team-wise, Hatz, Joe Hartnett, A.J. Blitz and Addison Straub claimed the 4×400 in 3:42.0 as Farrell, Paul Merriman, Andrew Roache and Andrew Veilleux tookt he 4×800 in 8:32.4.
