F-M girls lacrosse beats Auburn, Corcoran

A strong set of wins has the Fayetteville-Manlius girls lacrosse team well-positioned for Thursday night’s regular-season finale against defending Class A champion West Genesee.

Just three days after taking out Skaneateles on a wind-swept May 8, the Hornets hosted Auburn last Tuesday and had to hang on to beat the Maroons 14-12.

An active first half saw F-M inch out in front, 9-7. The two sides played on even terms throughout the second half, requiring the Hornets to clamp down on the defensive side to preserved its slim lead.

Taylor Robinson, with five goals, and Kelly Perry, with four goals, got lots of open looks as Auburn’s defense fixated on Mollie Caputo.

Still, Caputo, Alex Murphy and Sarah Lux each had one goal and one assist, while Marri Ryou and Marilyn Gerhardt also scored. Marilyn Farrell and Cara Esposito earned assists. Auburn saw Kim Neagle earn four goals as Nicole

Schattinger added three goals and two assists.

F-M then struck again Friday night, pounding Corcoran 19-8. In a spectacular first half, the Hornets attacked at will — and scored at much the same pace, not stopping until it had a 14-3 lead.

Robinson finished with five goals and one assist, just ahead of Perry’s total of four goals. Ryu earned a three-goal hat trick, as did Caputo, while Lux got two goals and two assists. Farrell and Christiana Kousmanidis earned single tallies as Esposito and Alex Murphy picked up assists, too.
