Breaking a long slump, the Cazenovia baseball team built a big early lead in Monday’s game against Jordan-Elbridge, then held off a late charge to beat the Eagles 11-10. The Lakers seized a 4-1 lead with two runs in each of the first two innings. After J-E closed it to 4-3, Cazenovia made its big move, scoring six times in the bottom of the fourth. Still, it took another two-run outburst in the fifth to fend off J-E, who reduced the Lakers’ 12-5 margin to a single run by scoring six times in the top of the sixth. Only when Zach Bonavita, in relief, got the final three outs were the Lakers able to survive.
Bonavita had relieved Zach Golden after Max Kellish, who got the win, pitched most of the way. Cazenovia won despite six errors and getting just eight hits, to J-E’s 14. Kellish, Golden and Jordan Demo each had two hits, with Jack Malmsheimer earning a pair of RBIs. Forest Blanchard scored two runs, as did Demo, Golden and Ben Davis. J-E’s Liam Corfield hit the game’s only home run.
