Van Buren officials have designated the playground and pool areas at Van Buren Central Park as “smoke-free,” which means smoking will not be allowed in these areas. A representative from Onondaga County suggested officials make the entire park smoke-free, but the town board did not want to limit the freedoms of residents, especially those who may rent one of the parks pavilions.
“We are not promoting smoking, but if someone rents a pavilion, they are outdoors and should be able to smoke if they want to,” said Councilor Pat Dickman.
