Back home after a split of its spring-break games in Myrtle Beach, the Liverpool baseball team found that it would have to warm up its bats along with the temperatures — especially since a game next Friday against rival Cicero-North Syracuse looms. Both proved to be quite cold in last Wednesday’s return game against West Genesee, as the Warriors could not figure out Turner Parry in a 5-2 loss to the Wildcats. Through the first five innings, Liverpool could not scratch out a run. Parry, mixing up his deliveries, worked his way to seven strikeouts and limited the Warriors to a scant four hits. WG got to Liverpool ace Matt O’Kipney by coaxing walks to load the bases in the top of the second inning, then clearing them on Justin Capella’s two-run single. Three more runs would follow in the fifth, and it was 5-0 before Liverpool finally got on the board when Shawn Peake doubled home two runs, but it was far from enough. With the bad stuff out of the way, the Warriors unloaded against Corcoran a day later, reaching double digits in a 13-2 romp over the Cougars at Van Duyn Field. A three-run first inning gave Liverpool the lead for good, and a five-run eruption in the top of the fifth all but put the game away. Of the Warriors’ 17 hits, eight went for extra bases, including Peake and James Wright smacking home runs. Alex Caruso tripled as Pat Brown earned a double and joined Peake with two RBIs. Tyler Lamb also drove in a run. All this gave John Folk lots of run support, as he and Brown allowed seven total hits. Corcoran helped along by committing 10 errors behind its pitching ace, Jamie Boronczyk, who took the loss.
