None of the local indoor track and field teams that went to Colgate University Saturday for one more Mohawk Valley Indoor Track Association meet would get close to the top.
In girls action, Vernon Verona Sherrill had 57 points for fourth place in Division I, well ahead of Oneida (25 points) and Chittenango (20 points), while Canastota had just 16 points in the Division II portion.
VVS got third in the 4×200 relay as Elaine Slaven, Kayla Prentice, Briana Rascoe and Kerry Miley posted a time of 2:00.71, just as Miley got third place in the 600-meter run in 1:51.10. The Red Devils also took fourth in the 4×400 in 4:46.78, with the Bears fifth and the Indians sixth.
Slaven, on her own, was second in the high jump, clearing 4 feet 8 inches, with Kayla Fazekas (4 feet 6 inches) in fourth place, and Slaven also took fourth in the 300-meter dash in 46.08 seconds as Emily Hudson was fourth in the 1,500 in 5:48.97.
McKenna Novak got third in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.29 seconds, with Casey Kane third in the 1,000-meter run (3:40.11). Tela Prettyman was fourth in the weight throw and sixth in the shot put, while McKenna Novak was sixth in the long jump.
Oneida had Jordan Armstrong fourth in both the 55-meter dash and the long jump, going 14 feet 6 1/2 inches in the latter, as she helped Sara Rifendifer, Erica Vaccaro and Vivian Thurston take fourth in the 4×200 relay in 2:02.69. Kelsey Hatch was fifth in the 600 as Rifendifer ran to sixth in the 300 and Kate Vineall sixth in the 55 hurdles.
Chittenango’s Maize Zamlowski earned third place in the triple jump, going 28 feet 8 1/2 inches. Hannah Murphy, Kaitlyn Alongi, Jordan Donnelly and Cassie Regan were fourth in the 4×800 relay in 11:40.60, with VVS fifth. Alongi took fourth in the 1,000, while Alyssa Giorosso was fifth in the 300 and Kelly Anderson sixth in the 1,500. Murphy ran to sixth in the 3,000.
Over in Division II, Canastota’s Marisa Williams provided a highlight in the 3,000, winning in a time of 12:14.37, 3.57 seconds ahead of Cazenovia’a Emma Wolsey, and she was also third in the 1,500 in 5:46.36.
Going to boys action, Chittenango did best in Division II, getting 55 points for fourth place as Oneida (43 points) was fifth. Canastota squeezed out 23 points in Division II.
John LaPlante gave the Bears a victory in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet, with Bruce Gondeck second in the high jump (5 feet 10 inches) after running to second in the 55 hurdles in 8.85 seconds.
Josiah Durfee, Josh Durfee, Greg Foster and Brad Murray got Chittenango to third place (9:24.85) in the 4×800. Josiah Durfeed added a third in the 3,200-meter run in 10:36.68, with John Durfee sixth.
Jason Given had a third (1:34.08) in the 600, as Brian Bohne was third in the 55-meter dash (6.87 seconds0 and fifth in the 300. Ryan Eklund was sixth in the triple jump.
Oneida’s Mike Rabbitt won twice, dominating both events. He tore through the 55 hurdles in 8.15 seconds, where teammate Ben Adams was fifth, and won the high jump with a clerance of with a clearance of 6 feet 5 inches, and added a third (20 feet 9 1/4 inches) in the long jump.
Jeb Stewart claimed fourth in the 600 (1:34.19). Tylar Burton took sixth in the weight throw, going 34 feet 5 inches. The Indians were fourth in both the 4×400 and 4×200. VVS saw Adam Litterio take third in the 1,000 in 3:01.90, where Oneida’s James Barr was fifth. The Red Devils’ Mike Eichenlaub was fifth in the 3,200.
Canastota had Aaron Walker win the 3,200-meter run in 10:07.1. Zach Szkolnick finished fourth in the 1,000 (2:52.07) and teamed with Erick Wells, Chris Barnhart and John Iaconis for third (4:04.64) in the 4×400. Barnhart took fifth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump.
