Having gained a lot of confidence through outside competition, the Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool indoor track and field teams utilized that confidence in two more meets at Manley Field House.
The girls Northstars won the team crown at Monday’s John Arcaro Invitational, earning 55 points to hold off Fayetteville-Manlius (52 points) for the top spot.
Jasmine Thompson won the high jump, clearing 5 feet 3 inches, and she also earned second in the triple jump, going 35 feet 10 inches. Katie Osborne, sixth in the triple jump, would win the 55-meter hurdles in 9.07 seconds as Jessica Wheeler (9.82 seconds) finished third.
Nicole Watterud had a strong outing in the 1,500-meter run, claiming second place in 4:58.92 Casey Wilmer added a third (33 feet 11 inches) in the shot put.
Liverpool, who was fourth with 32 points, had Trina Bills earn second in the 500-meter run in 1:20.26, with Rachel Putman fifth in 1:22.63. Chelsea Attaway tied for third in the pole vault, clearing 7 feet 6 inches, as Meagan Turner took third in the high jump behind Thompson.
Lesley Bowers got fourth (5:06.45) in the 1,500-meter run. The Warriors were third in the 1,000 sprint medley in 2:32.44.
CNS picked up 18 points in the boys Arcaro meet as Jared Thomson finished second in the shot put with a toss of 48 feet 11 1/2 inches as Nottingham’s Robert Howard (49 feet 6 1/2 inches) prevailed. Chris Buchanan got to second in the 3,000-meter run in 9:00.95 behind F-M star Alex Hatz (8:38.24).
Then Liverpool got its turn, dominating the boys portion of Wednesday’s George Constantino Invitational with 54 points, well clear of runner-up Tully (34 points) and the rest of the field.
Zavon Watkins won the 600-meter run, his time of 1:23.17 more than a second clear of the field as Chris Clemons took third place in 1:25.83. Colin Savage ran to third in the 1,000 (2:34.72) and helped the Warriors get sixth in the 4×400.
Joe Spernyak held off West Genesee’s Matt Ulrich, 8.17 seconds to 8.18, in the 55-meter hurdles. Tony Shuler, LaQuan Kitchen, Keewan Rondinello and Damien Brown were third in the 4×200 relay in 1:37.38 as Shuler got fourth (6.89 seconds) in the 55-meter dash.
In field events, Jason Osborne claimed second in the shot put with a toss of 47 feet 11 3/4 inches, trailing only Solvay’s C.J. Brooks (49 feet 3 3/4 inches). Joe Alvarado was fifth in the pole vault as Kitchen claimed sixth place in the long jump.
The girls Warriors had 12 points in the Constantino meet, most of them from Armani Moore winning the long jump, going 16 feet 7 1/2 inches to beat Phoenix’s Ashley Palmer by a quarter of an inch. Tatiana Gladney was fifth in the shot put.
